Skilled Migrant Category

Requirements

• Be under 56 years of age at the time of application
• Score at least 6 points under the current points system
• Hold a job offer or current employment in a skilled role in New Zealand (ANZSCO Skill Level 1–3)
• Earn at or above the median wage (currently NZD $35 per hour) — higher wages attract additional points
• Hold a relevant New Zealand qualification or an overseas qualification recognised in New Zealand
• Meet English language requirements (IELTS 6.5 overall or equivalent, or be exempt)
• Meet health and character requirements
• Partner and dependent children (up to 24 years old) can be included in the application

Qualification Pathways to Residence

Under the current SMC policy, your qualification combined with your New Zealand skilled work experience determines your eligibility. The following pathways each meet the points threshold required for residence:

High income pathway

Applicants who earn significantly above the median wage may qualify through the high income pathway, which awards additional points based on remuneration level.

Application Process

The first step is to schedule a free online or offline eligibility assessment. Once our licensed immigration advisor has confirmed your eligibility and a service agreement has been signed, the document checklist will be sent out. Once we have received and reviewed all documents, the Expression of Interest (EOI) will be lodged and immediately an Invitation to Apply (ITA) is received. The resident visa application will then be submitted to Immigration New Zealand.
